TIME

Have you ever feel that 24 hours a day is not enough for you? Do you ever wish that you can have more hours than that in one day? Sometime you may feel that other people around you had more time than you do but the fact is that you have the 168 hours each week that everyone else has. It actually the way you manage your time that differentiate you with others. In this era, time is a very crucial element especially for students and for those working people. Even though nowadays, a lot of mechanical stuff such as robots and machines have been create to help human being to accelerate their work but still many of us facing the problem related to time.

Equipped yourself with a very good time management is very crucial. Here, there are a few tips that maybe can help you to manage your time effectively.

1. Set your goal
- Your goal may be simple like “ I want to finish the topic tonight” or complex (large) like “ I want to be a dentist in the next five years”. By setting a goal, indirectly, you will be automatically trying to achieve your aim within the time that you have set. This will avoid you from wasting your time as in your mind you have dream or ambition to catch. Most of the people who always wasting their time by delay their work or doing unbeneficial stuff are the people who don’t have goals as their have no destination to go.

2. Arrange your activity systematically by making a timetable
- This is the most common way to manage time and it is also a very effective way if you really stick to your timetable. Most people have their own timetable but unfortunately not all of them really follow it. It is depends on yourself to do it or not. Having a little note book or diary in your pocket or beg is also an advisable thing to do. You can take note about every thing that you have to do so that you won’t forget about it later.

3. Don’t delay your work
- This always happen to the students. Most of students like to delay their assignment until the due date. As the time go, their assignment will get more and more and at the moment the have to submit their work, they will feel liked there are not enough time to do it. So, finish your work as soon as you get it to avoid your work from heaps of. And also another thing that most students love to do is to keep the questions that they don’t understand to themselves. They like to gathered the questions from the first topic to the last one and only asked all those questions during the study week where the exam is just around the corner. Please guys! Stop this attitude! This will make you more panicked as in your mind there is still so many topic that you still not cover. You’ll feel liked there is not enough time to finished your study. So, train yourself to immediately asked the lecturer any question that you have in your mind after the lecture and not wait until the exam.

4. Limit your activities
- This also refer to students. Involving yourself in the sports, association, clubs and any outdoors activities is good. But know your ability. If you are the person who can’t manage yourself well in the academic, don’t participate too much in those activity and give more attention to your study. If you are in the critical course, limit your participation as you need to focus more to your academic.

5. Keep a healthy lifestyle
- Having a good lifestyle can indirectly help you to manage your time efficiently. Don’t ever skip meal, exercise regularly, have a good night sleep and avoid smoking or drinking alcohol. All these can avoid you from getting sick. If you are sick, you will not be able to go to class and also can’t do work. Thus, when you recover, you will have to catch back all the topic you have miss and at the moment you will wish that you have more time.

Actually, besides all these tips above, there are many ways that can help you to manage your time. Different individual has different way to cope with the insufficient time problem. It depends on yourself to choose the suitable way for you. Anyway, I hope that these tips can help. Good luck!

IS ORGAN DONATION CONTOVERSIAL ENOUGH?

by Nawwar Nabilah Mohd Idrus

Organ donation can be defined as the gift of one’s body parts after death for transplantation. Transplantation is an operation which replaces diseased and defective organs and tissues with healthy ones from donors. The organs and tissues are removed when death has been confirmed by two registered doctors. The doctors involved with certification of death are not involved in the transplant operation.

However, the issue is somehow controversial where some people think that organ donation is a religious objection. Certain groups, like the gypsies, oppose organ donation on religious grounds, but most of the world's religions support donation. Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism recognise organ and tissue donation as the ultimate act of charity and kindness.

On the one hand are those who argue that those who can afford to buy organs are taking advantage of those who are desperate enough to sell their organs. Many suggest this results on the increase inequality of status between the rich and the poor. On the other hand are those who contend that the desperate should be allowed to sell their organs, and that stopping them is simply contributing to their status as impoverished.
In most of cases, organ donation is not possible for reasons of recipient safety, match failures, or organ condition. Even in Spain, which has the highest organ donation rate in the world, there are only 35.1 actual donors per million people, and there are hundreds of patients on the waiting list. This rate compares to 24.8 per million in Austria, where families are rarely asked to donate organs, and 22.2 per million in France, which -- like Spain -- has a presumed-consent system.Minorities including African-Americans, Asians and Pacific Islanders and Native Americans are more likely than whites to have certain chronic conditions that affect the kidney, heart, lung, pancreas and liver. Certain blood types are more widespread in ethnic minority populations. Because matching blood type is necessary for transplants, the need for minority donor organs is especially high. Being an organ donor can make a big difference, and not just to one person. By donating your organs after you die, you can save or improve as many as 50 lives.

A LITTLE ABOUT ORGAN DONATION..READ MORE, U KNOW MORE

What is organ donation? Actually, it is the removal of the tissues of the human body from a person who has recently died or from a living donor, for transplanting. People of all ages can be organ and tissue donors. Kidneys, heart, liver, lungs, pancreas, corneas, heart valves and bone as well as skin can all be transplanted. Skin can be used to treat patients with severe burns. Techniques for transplanting are improving all the time and it may soon be practical to transplant other parts of organ of the body so that many people who are suffer can get well enough to continue their life.

But, the question is, is it any religious problem about the organ transplant process? After a well discussion among the scientist and religious people, there are no any religious objections for organ donation. All the major religions of the world like Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism accept this organ donation as a mechanism to save people in suffer.

Even there are numerous campaigns and extensive media coverage, there are still a lot of people and even medical professionals who lack knowledge about organ donation, resulting in the loss of countless potential donors. Organ donation centre tried different approaches to spread the word on organ donation. As we know, the government itself had published the booklets about the importance of organ donation, they also have done an advertisements in cinemas and on prime time television to give that message to public. Unfortunately, many people still cannot understand why we need the organ donor. They only think about their future if they donate their organ to somebody else that they didn’t know.

For organ donation to be a success, the government should encourage more Malaysian scientist to do a research about the organ transplant without use human as main organ donor. Thereafter, the transplant coordination team must be ready to transport the organ successfully to the recipient. We also need to overcome infrastructural barriers, for example, an ambulance should be able to make it to the hospital on time which is first to save the person who may have a terrible accident so that they does not need an organ transplant in order to save their life.

There are several ways to increase the supply of organs. They include persuading more people to agree to be donors when they die, putting hospital policies and procedures in place to foster organ donation, obtaining more organs donated from the victims of brain death and cardiac death and increasing the number of live donors, especially people unrelated to the recipients. The success of any transplant program depends on the number of individuals who indicate in advance of their death their willingness to be donors.

In the early days of transplantation, donated organs and tissues came from victims of cardiac death, people who were no longer breathing and had no pulse, and whose hearts could not be function. So the doctor more interested to that heart transplant from the death body rather than the life person. Often by the time organs could be removed after a cardiac death, they had been without a blood supply for too long and were unusable or unlikely to survive in the recipients, but with nowadays technology we can overcome that problem easily.

So, we as Malaysian should help the government to transplant our organ to those who are needed so that they can live happily like us now. We need to think about their future too.

Thank you…..see u soon……….Diana

managing your day

Does it seem like you stay busy all the time, but never get anything finished? Do you need more hours in the day or more days in the week to complete all of the tasks that you need to accomplish? Well, it isn’t possible to add more hours to the day. The fact is each of us has 1,440 minutes each day to get done what is on our to-do list. What differs from one person to another isn’t how much time we have, but rather what we do with the time. The key to getting more done is to learn how to manage your time more effectively. Time management is one of the biggest challenges faced by managers and other professionals today. Being a good manager requires the ability to multitask effectively. Managers find themselves constantly juggling different tasks and duties, and sometimes fulfilling multiple roles in the workplace. During the course of a single day, managers deal with employee problems, employee accomplishments, scheduling, budgeting, working with vendors, managing projects, and a seemingly endless list of other things that demand time and attention. Poor time management can be responsible for many workplace problems. Do you find that at the end of the day you haven’t completed a single item on your task list, but you were busy all day? It’s time to work on your time management skills. With all the new technology available to help organize our days – both at work and at home – it would seem easy to be productive. From PalmPilots to BlackBerry’s to iPhones and Bluetooth technology, the office is never far away. But, sometimes the very things we do to help us manage our time actually produce new challenges to our work days. According to Linda Finkle, CEO of Incendo Group, a professional leadership and organizational coaching firm, “Technology itself plays a major role in making time management more difficult. With e-mail, cell phones, and blackberries, people are getting accustomed to, and are demanding, instant responses and instant results. When you are constantly interrupted, it is very difficult to complete specific tasks.” Finkle sees e-mail and a constant flow of people interrupting you as the two biggest challenges faced by today’s managers. Tips for Managing Your Time More Effectively
1. Check Email Only at Certain Times of the DayFinkle advises her clients to turn off automatic email notifications.
It is tempting to stop what you are doing every time a new email message comes in, but reading every message immediately is generally not the best use of your time. By turning off automatic email notifications, you are eliminating what often amounts to a constant source of distractions. Depending on how dependent you are on email in order to do your job, set aside two or three times each day to check email messages instead of checking each message the moment it arrives, and you’ll be surprised at how much more work you are able to get accomplished.
2. Schedule Specific Times for Employee Communication
In addition to receiving an endless stream of emails on a daily basis, many managers often deal with a constant flow of people with questions every day as well. While being available to your employees is necessary for effective management and leadership, you can set limits on your availability. Finkle states, “As human beings, we think that listening requires us to be available to others all the time. However, being a good listener does not mean that we have to give people access to us 24 hours a day.”Finkle reminds her clients that they are responsible for setting limits with their employees. She says, “Part of our jobs as leaders is to educate people about how to and when to communicate with us. Schedule specific times that you are available and stick to it. This technique will enable you to have more control over your schedule and can actually help make your employees function more effectively and independently. Another time management saver is the notebook. Finkle suggests employees keep notebooks with them to jot down issues that need managerial help throughout the day. During a set time of the day, employees can discuss any issues with their manager. This also gives employees peace of mind knowing their concerns are heard, and that they are not just a fleeting thought in between meetings.
3. Resetting ExpectationsIt’s noted that employees set expectations of managers based on individual managerial behaviors.
Setting expectations also means setting limitations. If you have employees or clients who expect instantaneous responses upon email messages, it’s appropriate to politely set return email or follow-up call expectations. For example, if you have an employee whose job is to set up presentations for you, let that employee know that you plan to make decisions about presentations every Tuesday. By setting the employee’s expectations for communication on this project, you are keeping the employee from feeling neglected when you don’t respond immediately, and keeping yourself from having to switch gears from other projects at a moment’s notice.
4. PrioritizeMaking priority lists can be very helpful when you are trying to get control of your schedule.
Finkle advises her clients to sit down at the beginning of each day and make a list of the most important tasks to complete by the end of the day. Once you know what is the most important, you can focus your primary energy on those specific responsibilities for that day. Share your task list with employees so they are aware of your daily plans. As a manager, an important part of your job is to handle important and emergency situations as they arise. One of the most important things to remember is that not everything is top priority. There are circumstances that will require you to stop what you are doing and give your full attention immediately. Getting control of your schedule involves learning to tell the difference between what you have to take care of now, and what can be scheduled for attention at specific times. Time management is all about figuring out how to make the best use of the limited time that you have.

Do you want to donate your organ?

Do you know what is organ donation? Organ donation is the removal of the tissues of the human body from a person who has recently died, or from a living donor, for the purpose of transplanting. Transplantation is an operation which involves the replacement of diseased and defective organs & tissues with healthy ones from donors. This treatment helps save lives of people. Organ and tissue donation is the ultimate humanitarian act of charity.

Organs that can be donated from donor are heart, intestine, kidney, lungs, liver, and pancreas. Organs that can be donated from living donors include part of the liver or pancreas and the kidney. The organs of the body that can be transplanted at the current time are kidneys, heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, and the intestines. For your information, kidney/pancreas transplants, heart/lung transplants, and other combined organ transplants also are performed. All of those organs cannot be stored and must be used within hours of removing them from the donor's body. Corneas, the middle ear, skin, heart valves, bone, veins, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments can be stored in tissue banks.

Lots of people are worried to donate their organ or organ from their family member that were died. All people of all ages should consider themselves potential organ and tissue donors. No one is too old or too young. Both newborns and senior citizens have been organ donors. The condition of your organs is more important than age Medical Condition? Don't Rule Yourself Out. There are few people that can not donate their organ like HIV positive, active cancer and systemic infection. People with these condition still able to donate their organ or tissue after dead but for lab research or education.

Base on what I had said before, people are still worried to donate their organ. This is because, they afraid that the process of organ donation will delay the funeral arrangement. Arrangement for funeral can be made as in any case of death. Following of the removal of the organs or tissues, the body will be clean and draped and return to the family within the shortest possible time. Moreover, there are no objection from any religion. All the major religion of the world like Islam, Christian, Buddhism, Hinduism and Skihism support organ and tissue donation as a charitable act of love and giving and also benevolence. But we have to inform our family member first if we wish to donate our organ.

So all of your decision are depend on you. Many life could be saved if more people became organ and tissue donors. It’s a right thing to do. Therefore, I hope all the information that I gave can change the point of view among people in the world towards the organ donation. Lastly, make the gift of life be useful to the end.

Come on people manage your time now.

The clock tick non stop and the time passes by. Time use to pass even when the clock were not there. Time is a constant that changes constantly. Nothing can stop it. See how important time to us. So we should know how to manage our time in order to appreciate the time that we have.

Time management is commonly defined as the management of time in order to make the most out of it. Learning how to manage your time so that you have time for yourself in essential to your well being. But most people did not know how to manage their time especially Malaysian. Base on my opinion, Malaysian still bad in time management. Most of them like to procrastinate their work, not punctual and so on. There are many way to have good management of time.

First, we need to review our goal often whether it is short term or long term goal. Always determine which task is necessary or not necessary in achieving your goal and which activities are helping you maintain a balance life style. If we already have our own goal, it is easy for us to manage our time to get what we want.

Next, you must learn to say ‘NO’ when you do not want to be involve. Besides that, come on people reward yourself with something nice for an effective time management result. Make sure you do not procrastinate your work. Lastly, make a record of all your activity, have positive attitude and set yourself up for success.

If we have good in time management, may be 99% of our work were be easy and we can finish it on time. As we all known, time will never wait us. Some of us chase the time but on the other side there are people that forget about time. So you think which one you are? Only you can judge yourself.

The Procrastination VS Punctuality

Recently, we had a discussion in our weekly critical reading class regarding on time management. Our beloved teacher had asks us to give our opinion about Malaysian in their time managing aspect; whether it is good enough or still can be improved. Some of our friends also told the class how their family manages time. From the individual aspect, most of them are very particular about time, yet, ironically some of them do not have the attitude that is parallel to what they have claimed in the class.

I don’t want to touch on that issue on this blog. Here, I want to talk about my opinion towards the issue. In my opinion, Malaysian generally have quite a good time management. I said generally because, in real life, there are different peoples living together as a society, related to each other. They’re all connected directly and indirectly together forming a network of various timeline which moves at different phase; some is pausing, some is forwarding and at the end it stops(death).

We can’t expect all Malaysian to be as punctual as we’re. We must realize that every person have their own problems and weakness to be considered. Maybe the way of time management of a man which we seen as wrong is the best for him. For example, he might take his time every time he do something but in the end, if his work is done properly, it will be worth it. On the other hand, if we force him to do his job on time and finished it with a limited time range, he might be a bit clumsy and won’t show his true potential.

On the last class, I forgot to share with the class about my family attitude towards time. My family, especially my parent is very particular about time. They value every minutes that we have. If we’re going anywhere, both of them will make sure that our family will arrives on time or earlier so that we won’t miss out anything. My mom is quite strict during weekdays during my last school time. She will make sure that I wake up early. If I don’t budge from my bed, she will splash a glass water to my face. The cold water usually wakes me up.

Despite the fact that my parents is quite punctual, I take the thing a little bit easy. For me, I try to be punctual whenever possible but I will also consider some flexibility in my time management so that I won’t feel so much pressure in my daily life. If I were to attend an important event such as examination or college event, I will usually come early. If the event is less important and involves someone who is really close to me, I sometimes come a little bit late, but I never late for more than half an hour.

For college student, here are some priciple to manage your time:

  • Avoid and fight rampant procrastination. Each of us has their own procrastination habits. Only by identifying them and admitting that you succumb to procrastination is the way to break them.
  • A time management calendar is needed where you must write all-important dates from birthdays and other social events to more important, never-should-be-forgotten classroom schedules.
  • Set deadlines that you can achieve realistically.
  • Identify your most productive time of day where your level of energy is high. Once identified, set out to develop study habits.
  • Of course, you must not let your priorities go awry. Every minute is precious for a college student. By knowing what your priority goals and activities are, you can have balance enough time for everything you have to do.
  • No one learned without committing a mistake.
  • From time to time, learn to say No to family and friends
  • Remember that you are not that perfect and learn to live with that fact, so as to avoid becoming a perfectionist.
  • Always find time for rest and relaxation. This will allow you to unwind and free yourself from stress and pressure.

In addition, this advice must be quite useful for all of you:

    1. Just like any other large projects, large homework or assignments should be broken down into manageable size. Instead of only, you will have smaller ones, but to be finished at different schedules in manageable intervals.

    2. Even if you are on campus, during intervals between classes, and precious few hours of break time, devour your lecture notes and books. Studying on campus is certainly a good habit to develop, especially since you are left with little time to study once you are in your job or attending to your kids/other commitments.

    3. Reward yourself for coming up with efficient and effective time management methods as you mature in college.

    4. Sleep is important for everyone. Do not deprive yourself from a well deserved sleep. Do not think that you waste precious time sleeping. You are wasting precious time when you still stick to work even when it is your bedtime.

    5. Once you feel pressure and stress closing in around you, seek the advice of administrators, or faculty you trust. A word of advice or a refreshing thought can be just the thing to lift back your spirits.

    6. Socialize with peer students whenever you get a chance. Great ideas won't necessarily come out of your mind every time. Listen to others and tap any good habits or practices they follow.

I think that is all from me for now. See ya!

TIME MANAGEMENT

Nowadays, personal time management skills are essential skills for mainly effective people. Many people spend their days in their activity. Unfortunately, they only achieve their aim very little, because they're not concentrating to their effort on the things that matter the most. This thing will cause stress among them. But, there are many skills that we can use to manage our stress especially among student. These also can help us to remain calm anytime and effective in high pressure situations and help us avoid the problems of long term stress as well as can think critically.
The way on how to manage the time efficiently is avoid procrastinate from now, especially study because it’ll stops achieving things that we are capable of and can disrupts the careers too. Furthermore prepare schedule to manage the time so that we can divide our duty at the exact time and at the same time it’ll not overlap to another duty . Actually, scheduling is the process by which we look at the time available to us, and plan how we will use it to achieve the goals that we had identified. By using a schedule, automatically we can understand what we want to achieve with our time, plan to make the best use of the time available and leave enough time for things we absolutely must do. It is work if we do it constantly. Not only do the schedule, we also must follow it.
Other than that, keep you watch at accurate time so that you will not some important event. For some people, fastest the time on their watch will help them be earlier maybe because they are the people who are need a long period to get ready for something. Get a good night's sleep also important. For student, we need about 6 hours sleep per day so that it’ll not disrupt our next day. Then, keep a clock, phone, computer or anything that displays time in each room of your house so that you are always aware about the time especially we as dental students. One of the easiest ways to run late is simply by not realizing that the time is going by as quickly as it is. Lastly, commit yourself to being 15 minutes early for everything.
For me, time management is very important nowadays especially for students. We need to manage our time efficiently so that no other problem will occur soon.

Thank you……..DIANA

Info on Organ Donation

Organ donation takes healthy organs and tissues from one person for transplantation into another. Experts say that the organs from one donor can save or help as many as 50 people. Organs you can donate include:

  • Internal organs: Kidneys, heart, liver, pancreas, intestines, lungs
  • Skin
  • Bone and bone marrow
  • Cornea

  • People of all ages and background can be organ donors. If you are under age 18, your parent or guardian must give you permission to become a donor. If you are 18 or older you can show you want to be a donor by signing a donor card. You should also let your family know your wishes.
Do you know that there are two types of organ donation? One is nonliving donation and the other is living donation. However living donation is better in some aspects compared to the nonliving donation and the details will be discussed later. First of all, what is living donation?
Living donation takes place when a living person donates an organ (or part of an organ) for transplantation to another person. The living donor can be a family member, such as a parent, child, brother or sister (living related donation).Living donation can also come from someone who is emotionally related to the recipient, such as a good friend, spouse or an in-law (living unrelated donation).
In some cases, living donation may even be from a stranger, which is called nondirected donation.
The organ most commonly given by a living donor is the kidney. People usually have two kidneys, and one is all that is needed to live a normal life. Parts of other organs including the lung, liver and pancreas are now being transplanted from living donors.
Now let we move on to what I have mentioned above about the advantages of living donation over nonliving donation.
Transplants performed from living donors have several advantages compared to transplants performed from nonliving donors (individuals who have been declared brain dead and their families have made the decision to donate their organs).
First, some living donor transplants are done between family members who are genetically similar. A better genetic match lessens the risk of rejection. Second, a kidney from a living donor usually functions immediately, making it easier to monitor.
Some nonliving donor kidneys do not function immediately and as a result, the patient may require dialysis until the kidney starts to function. Lastly, potential donors can be tested ahead of time to find the donor who is most compatible with the recipient. The transplant can take place at a time convenient for both donor and recipient.
The most common question that will come across one’s mind when living donation are mentioned is, are transplants from living donors always successful? The answer is, although transplantation is highly successful, and success rates continue to improve, problems may occur. Sometimes, the kidney is lost to rejection, surgical complications or the original disease that caused the recipient’s kidneys to fail.
I’m also want to touch a bit about some of the common organ donation. The first is about the liver donation. Donating a section of a liver is riskier than kidney donation, and much less common. Transplanting a piece of the liver works because the liver regenerates itself in both the donor and recipient after the transplantation.
Besides being in excellent physical and psychological health, the liver donor must undergo extensive examinations and testing. A radiological imaging of the liver is done to assess the anatomy, liver volume and size. A liver biopsy may be performed. Most often parents donate a piece of a liver to a child. Adult to adult live liver transplant is still relatively rare.
Next is about the lung donation. Living lung donation involves two adults giving the right and left lower lobes from each respectively to an adult or pediatric recipient. The potential donors’ lungs must be the right size and volume. For adult recipients, the donors should be at least as tall as the recipient. Ideally, donors should not be overweight and should be nonsmokers.
Potential donors receive a series of exams and tests including chest radiography, pulmonary function testing, ventilation-perfusion scanning and computed tomography, and a cardiac stress test. Again, donating a lung is riskier than live kidney donation.
There are few steps involves in the blood donation. Initially, a trained staff person will ask you some health history questions during a private and confidential interview. You will have your temperature, iron level, blood pressure and pulse checked in order to protect your health and well being.
After that, the staff will cleanse an area on your arm and insert a needle for the blood drawing procedure. You will have 7-10 minutes to relax while the bag is filling. When approximately a pint of blood has been collected, the staff person will remove the needle and place a bandage on your arm.
Finally, you will spend a few minutes enjoying refreshments to allow your body time to adjust to the slight decrease in fluid volume. You can then leave the donation site and continue with your normal daily activities.
So, that all from me. What are you waiting for now? Let us all make hay while the sun shines. Let’s sign ourselves as organ donors. Thank you.

    Time Management

Time is limited resources. One important thing to achieve success in life is set goals and goals need to be mapped onto a timeline. There is a Chinese proverbs that says 'no amount of gold will buy you time that has passed'.Knowing that time is a limited resource, we would naturally need to cherish it. Once time is lost, we can never make up for it. There are some factors why time management is important.

Firstly, as all of know, time is limited. Time is a very special resource in that we cannot save it or store it later. Everyone gets exact the same amount of time each and every day. If we do not use your time wisely, we are not going to get it back.

Everyone need time to get what they want out of life. We need time to do almost anything worthwhile in life. Waiting for more free time is a loosing game that almost never results in getting time for what we want. We need to learn how to make time for the things that are important to us. Even if we can only afford to give a small amount of time each week to our goals, we'd be surprised at how much progress we can make.

Other than that, we can complete more work with less effort. When we become more productive using improved time management skills and tools, we can complete more work with less effort. Reducing wasted time and effort gives us even more productive time throughout the day. Both of these allow us to make time for a wide range of activities that bring more balance and fulfillment to our life.

In this modern world, there are so many ways to spend time. What we need is, some sort of plan to make intelligent choices. Most of the people think they have too much of work to do and not enough time. Lack of time blamed for everything from not getting enough exercise, poor money, unarchived goals and even unfulfilled life. Time management helps us to use time we do have in better ways.

Time management helps us make conscious choices so we can spend more of our time doing things that are important and valuable.

Old folks home now and it’s future

Many of Malaysian nowadays have the bad impression towards the person who sent their parents or relatives to the old folks home. They’re not to be blamed actually because the mass media such as television, radio, newspaper or even magazines always illustrating the old folks home as the ‘dumping’ site for the old ones by their children. I believe the mass media fails to cover the bright side of sending the veterans to the old folks home.
In the present time, our society is generally pessimistic and think negatively towards the issue of sending the elder to the old folks home. As the results, all person who sends their parent there will be the victim of a blind prejudice. This prejudice does not only stem from the mass media, but the old folks home itself. The old folks home, especially the one which is managed by the government, lack in many aspect; whether from the facilities aspect or the managing system.
As mentioned above, some old folks homes are only slightly above when compared to the prison or the school dorm. Different person there has a different problem and need different approach as well as different facilities to manage them but sadly, some facilities is missing. For example, the person who suffered muscle dystrophy needs a constant care from a physiotherapist and need to work out with a special set of equipments but these might be expansive to provide.
From the managing aspect, two weak points have been identified which are inefficiency, and not enough care towards the old folks. The inefficiency starts from the process of registration in which there is no strict requirement needed to send someone into the place. In addition, there is nothing has be done to make the person who sent the old one to the place, to have a visit there regularly. As the result, the old folks often feel lonely and neglected.
Now, we have to makes the people understand why there are people who sends their parents to the old folks home. To change all of the negative perspective from the people’s mind, several approach must be taken seriously to assure it’s success. First, we must instill a stricter term to send someone into the old folks home. The terms are; the old folks must be at least 58 years old and will be at risk if left alone at home, the person who send the old one must live within 30 km radius from the old folks home, and the sender must sign an agreement to have a visit a least once a week to the place.
We can also improve the living quality of the old folks there by taking a few steps. Initially, we must improve the facilities at the old folks home. Why don’t we let them feel as if they’re at their own home or maybe better. We must provide televisions, swimming pool, gymnasium, library, a large and beautiful garden, a multipurpose hall and a worship place for every religion. The dorm must be renovate into rooms and all the old fans, lamps and others facilities must be replaced with a new one.
Other than that, we can introduce buddy system. A buddy is the senior person, who enters there earlier than the newcomers. In buddy system, the newcomers will be given a buddy or several buddies for them to adapt to the new life there, share their problem with, enjoy the same hobbies and help them to know the others. We can also arranged many programs for them and celebrate every festivals in order to prevent them from getting bored. Lastly, we must try to make the idea of opening the day-care center for the old folks as the alternative for the old folks home comes true because some individual are willing to take care of their parent if they are not on their working hours. If all of the approach above can be achieved, I think Malaysia will be the best country for the old folks to live in.

A True Undertaking - Organ Donation

A True Undertaking – Organ Donation
    By: Chai Ya Yin

Hi, dear readers, do you all familiar with ‘organ donation’? What does it mean to all of you? Do you ever think about donating your organs after your death? It is indeed a very vital issue to give a deep thought as we can save a lot of life if we are willing to do so.

Actually, what is organ donation? It is the removal of the tissue of the human body from a person who has recently died, or from a living donor, for the purpose of transplant. Organs and tissues are removed in procedures similar to surgery, and all incisions are closed at the conclusion of the surgery. People of all ages may be organ and tissue donors.

Nowadays, donations from dead donors far outweigh donations by living ones. The laws of different countries allow either the potential organ donor to consent or dissent to the donation during his or her life time, or allow the potential donor's relatives to consent or dissent. Due to cultural issues and different legislative possibilities, the number of donations per million people varies substantially in different countries

Organs that can be procured include the heart, intestines, kidneys, lungs, liver, pancreas. These are procured from a brain dead donor or a donor where the family has consent for donation after cardiac death, known as non-heart-beating donation.
The following tissues can be procured: bones, tendons, corneas, heart valves, femoral veins, great saphenous veins, small saphenous veins, pericardium, skin grafts, and the sclera (the tough, white outer coating surrounding the eye). These are only procured after death. Organs that can be donated from living donors include part of the liver or pancreas and the kidney.

See, there are so many live that we can save out of our one body. It is all depend on us whether we want to do it or not. It is really a meaningful mission after death – by bringing hopes to the world.

However, there are still some arguments towards organ donation. In old days, people are not performing this ritual because they think that the complete body is main key for the spirit of the death people to go the heaven. Old people who have a deep believe in superstitious will allow neither themselves nor their family members to have the organ donation. They already set in their mind that if their lost parts of their body, they will not free from the world.

In my own opinion, I think that organ donation is good; it is a form of charity. As for me, charities do not mean that we can only donate money, food, or any other necessaries to the needed, but we still can have this good attitude even though after our death by leaving our organs continue to function in other people’s body. We can thus set a very good example to next generation. By doing this, we can convince the people around us that donating organs do not bring any harm, but in turn it brings cheers to the world.

However, there are some problems arise from organ donation, where some illegal selling of organs happen all around the dark market. Some poor people from villages are willing to sell their organs like kidneys in order to make a living. This can lead to the money-minded community continue to remain in our society, making the lost of the real purpose of organ donation.

In conclusion, organ donation is a way to bring hope, happiness and also thankfulness in people. We should never make it a way to make money as this cause make evil to take over our mind.
